About this property
The Victoria & VINE residences represents
the culmination of design, culture and architecture winding back to the 19th century. Drawing on the history and design of New York and blending it with Melbourne’s own, we have created buildings of layered beauty, sophistication and genuine substance.
Fully informed by the desires of the local community and driven by our steadfast philosophy on urban regeneration, the new streetscape will embrace the neighbourhood and its people. Local artists will enjoy a dedicated space—a new arts hub for Collingwood’s artistic community—and that’s something we’re incredibly proud to provide, along with a world-class retail precinct.
Collingwood’s unique streetscape would not be what it is today if it was not for Foy & Gibson’s collection of factories, mills, warehouses and stores in the area. In 1889, William Gibson set out to tour the great department stores of Europe, and was inspired to transform his shop into one of Melbourne’s earliest department stores, improving on the Paris model, setting up his own factories and mills to manufacture goods. The Foy & Gibson complex was designed by eminent Melbourne architect, William Pitt c.1895. At the turn of century, it was described as the largest in the Southern hemisphere.
VICTORIA & VINE spans an amazing site boasting a frontage of two hundred metres, broken down into a collection of buildings reflecting the character of the neighbourhood and GURNER’s future vision.
